I trained as a Stage Manager at the London Academy Of Music And Dramatic Art and
started my working life as a Stage Manager in the West End and in the
blossoming Fringe circuit of the early 70's in London. One day the
photographer doing the publicity stills didn't turn up. I borrowed a
Canon SLR camera and never wanted to mark up a 'prompt script' ever
again. But my theatre and photography lives were entwined for many
years to come. As someone who had worked in theatre, it became a
passion for me to photograph performance. In London's Fringe Theatre and San Francisco's gay theatre scene I had the chance to document some of the most creative and independent theatre companies.
