I arrived in San Francisco in 1987 and immediately started acting like a kid in a candy store. I had never photographed women so in control of their own sexual identities and so eager to share their vision with the camera.

I worked with Susie Bright at On Our Backs Magazine and our work together culminated in the groundbreaking collection of lesbian erotic photography which we co-edited: 'Nothing But The Girl' in 1996. It won both the LAMBDA and Firecracker Awards for Best Art Book that year.

One of the hardest criticisms to take is that from within one's own community. The vitriol thrown my way for daring to celebrate the power of lesbian sexual identity has always taken me by surprise. It's understood though, that a minority culture and one which feels under attack will always eat its' own. And even though my interest in photographing 'erotica' spanned a short time period, the shock value of lesbian sex photography has meant that these images have defined, for some, my entire body of work.
